The Value of Self-Examination

Keeping an eye on oneself

Sometimes it can be easy to see the flaws, the shortcomings, or what we think
are the wrong attitudes of others. But do we see our own? Jesus taught on this,
explaining how necessary it was that we first “remove the beam” from our own
eye, before we attempted to “remove the splinter” from the eye of another. If
we are going to help others with loving and constructive criticism, it is
imperative that we first honestly appraise ourselves. How do our lives and
actions measure up? We will, of course, find that when we look at ourselves
there is always room for improvement and growth! The best way to engage in
constructive self-examination is to ask for the help of the Holy Spirit. It is
He who reveals truth to our soul, not just the great truths that build us up
and bring us immediate joy, but also the truths we may not be so keen to hear,
but which we need to embrace if we are to grow and fulfil our destiny on earth.
Ask the Holy Spirit today to show you yourself as you’ve never seen yourself
before, including all those hidden areas of your life that may need to be
brought into God’s healing light. Remember that God loves you the way you are,
but He loves you too much to let you stay the way you are!
