What’s Needed Most? Jesus’ answer. What’s the most important human activity? Jesus answered that question. He was with His friends Lazarus, Martha, and Mary for a meal. Whilst Martha was preparing food for them, Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and simply listened. This upset Martha who complained to Jesus that Mary wasn’t pulling her weight. Jesus’ reply to her was telling. He didn’t criticise Martha for serving, but He did commend Mary for listening, and went so far as to say that Mary had chosen the best thing. It’s great to be a hard worker, but it’s even better to be a hard listener! John Wesley once said that because he would be very busy on a certain day, he would need to
spend longer than usual in prayer! He understood this vital principle. When we prioritise listening to Jesus daily, our time management will rise to the highest level, for reverence for God adds hours to the day.
