Today's Early Church Wisdom
'Just as when you are sitting at table and there are many courses, you take some but without pleasure, so when secular conversations come your way, have your heart turned towards God, and thanks to this disposition, you will hear them without pleasure, and they will not do you any harm.'
Amma Theodora
C.4/5 Century
This week's Psalm is Psalm 29 'The Voice That Stills The Storm'

The Head of The Church

If we were to ask most church leaders whether Jesus is the head of their church, they might well feel somewhat insulted! ‘Of course He is!’ someone might say. They might even add, ‘Do you know nothing about New Testament theology?!’ You’ll have to go a long way to find a pastor or priest that doesn’t believe that Jesus is the head of the church. It’s His church after all! But this question is not merely about the reality of Christ’s headship. It’s about the outworking of this reality in the life of the church. You see, it’s one thing to accept the idea that Jesus is leader of the church, but it’s an entirely different thing to be actively led by Jesus on a daily basis. The question that must be asked of any group that claims to be the church of Christ is, ‘Is Jesus the leader in name only, or is He allowed to actively lead this group of believers?’ Let us be those who seek to actively practice God’s presence and listen to our beloved Saviour’s voice.
