Yesterday we asked this question of our churches: ‘Is Jesus the leader in name only, or is He allowed to actively lead this group of believers?’ To some extent this question may be answered through observation. A group who are actively following Jesus will make time to seek Him, individually and together. And this will be something they do consistently, not just ‘once in a full moon.’ Of course, as with so many matters of faith, we have to be careful in drawing conclusions simply on the basis of what we see outwardly. Only God sees and knows a person’s heart or a group's true nature. In the case of an individual, perhaps we do not see any great outward evidence that they are actively looking to Jesus, but it may be that they are simply a more private or introverted individual who is in fact walking very closely with Him! We should be careful not to judge on appearances alone. May we learn to check things out with God so that our judgement better aligns with His and then let us be those who actively follow Him both as individual believers and in our Christian communities.
