Persuasion is part of evangelism. When people are persuaded, they act in line with what they now believe. We want people to be persuaded about the claims of Jesus, just as we are, because we know that they will then receive Him as their Saviour. Consequently, we make sure that we are ready to give an answer for our faith, and we know that when we do, what we say will impact the other person. How can we be so sure about this? Is it because we are amazing persuaders? No. It is because there is a power in the gospel message itself, the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s important to be clear from the start that we can’t convert anyone. Our job is simply to share the news. The Holy Spirit will do the rest, for it is the Spirit that convicts. Knowing this will take a lot of the pressure off your shoulders when it comes to evangelism.
