Jesus said that we would ultimately have to give account for every ‘idle’ word that we have spoken. Words can be cheap. It’s often easy to say them, but are we being honest, and will we do what we say? Sometimes we just speak without thinking, failing to properly reflect on the impact that our words may have. The effects of such talk can range from the merely ineffective to the deadly. Knowing what to say can be difficult, and there will be times when we feel ‘lost for words.’ At such times it is often better to say nothing than make an ill-considered comment. How can we find the right words in any situation? There is a perfect answer, and it is found in a living personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When we receive Jesus as our Saviour and we choose to daily walk and talk with Him, He will show us both what to do, and what to say. But we will need to listen! Practice listening to Jesus daily, and you will get better and better at choosing the right words.
