I remember reading a Russian short story that was set in Hell. Two men were in adjacent cauldrons, but they were being treated so differently that one complained to the supervising demon, saying, “Why is it that I am being boiled so vigorously, whilst my neighbour appears to be receiving little more than a warm bath? All I did was to write a few novels, but he is a murderer!” The demon replied, “Yes, it is true that you were a
writer and that he was a murderer, but whilst he murdered one man in a moment
of uncontrolled anger, your books have negatively influenced the lives of thousands, resulting in a great many injuries, thefts, rapes, and murders. That is why you are now receiving the greater punishment.” Let us not wait for the judgement after death but stop now to examine our words and actions before God. May the consequences of what we do and say be good.
