It might be thought that anyone moving in the Holy Spirit is, by definition, moving in revival, but the reality is not quite so simple. The reason for this is that there is a difference between being filled with the Spirit and being anointed with the Spirit. When a person comes to faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit takes up residence within them, their body becoming His temple (1 Corinthians 6:19). They may then be filled to differing degrees according to their desire and openness to God. Hence the New Testament injunction to be daily filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). As men and women are filled, revival power flows in their life, and is evidenced in at least two main expressions. Firstly, the ‘fruit’ of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22,23); and secondly the ‘gifts’ of the Holy Spirit: the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healings, the working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, different kinds of tongues, and the interpretation of tongues. (1 Corinthians 12:8-10).
