There is a place reached by those who choose to continue walking daily with Jesus. These disciples always acquire what has been called by some an ‘established heart’; that is, they become firmly grounded in their faith. This is the place described in 2 Thessalonians 3:3: “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one” (2 Thessalonians 3:3). Establishing the heart is something God does, but He can only do it for hearts that are given to Him. By daily practising His presence and listening to His word, we are established more and more in faith, for “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). This place of spiritual strength is accompanied by another great blessing of God: that grace by which we are guarded from the evil one. Scripture tells us that our adversary the devil, “walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Those who walk daily with the strongest lion of all, Jesus Christ, “the Lion of the tribe of Judah” (Revelation 5:5), have nothing to fear from this ‘paper lion’, Satan the Pretender!
