Know That the Lord Goes Before You

A lot of the anxiety people feel is anticipatory. In other words, it looks forward to a future event. We may be anxious about an upcoming examination, or a medical procedure, or a difficult meeting, for example. Knowing this gives us an opportunity to intervene in our own thinking prior to the event, to best manage and reduce the anxiety. The question then is how? Those of us who have found personal faith in Jesus are in no doubt as to the best answer here. It’s well expressed by Moses in the Biblical book of Deuteronomy: “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8). To walk into tomorrow with Jesus, is to walk with the deepest security known to man. Practise His presence, listen to His personal word to you, and step out into your future. Remember: The Lord goes before His people into every tomorrow.
