As we have seen, your story is itself a Holy Spirit power-filled argument for faith. Because it’s a good story, a happy story from your life, you’ll always tell it with enthusiasm and joy. The force of conviction and conversion will come, not from you, but from the Holy Spirit, for this is God’s work. The timing of this process must be left to God. Some may respond faster, others slower. Give people the time they need to process what you have shared, encouraging them to ask their questions, and come to their own sincere decision. Psychological research entirely supports such an approach. For example, Richard Petty and John Cacioppo’s Elaboration Likelihood Model (1986) established that deep, lasting persuasion occurs when people voluntarily process meaningful arguments rather than merely react to emotional pressure or authoritative directions or commands. Give them the time they need. Don’t push – proclaim!
