There are moments in life when we are particularly struck by the love and power of God. Simon Peter had such an experience following the great catch described in Luke 5:1-11. At this moment, overwhelmed by the immensity of the miracle, Peter falls at Jesus’ feet and says, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!" You see, the miracle wasn’t just about fish. It was about opening Peter’s eyes to the greatness and holiness of Christ, and to his own need for grace. The message of this miracle was not lost on these fishermen who knew the Sea of Galilee. They knew that such a catch was simply not possible by natural means. Then Jesus spoke words that echo through time to each one of us: "Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men." What could be more ‘everyday’ than fishing for these men? It was their life. But when Jesus appears on the scene, the everyday becomes ‘the’ day – a day to remember. Don’t let your days all roll into one amorphous mass of mindless repetition and boredom. There’s no need for it! Let Jesus into your boat and watch what happens. Let Jesus direct your fishing and watch while the fish swim towards you!
