Jesus steps into the ordinary places of our lives, but are we listening? These first followers listened and obeyed, even though they probably thought it was a bad idea. Jesus meets us – in our boats, in our failures, in our doubts, in our uncertainty and confusion. And He guides us in a perfect path to something so much greater that only He can bring into existence. He doesn't wait for us to work things out, or to become perfect, or to reach some exalted place of spirituality. No – He meets us right where we are, whatever our age, our background, our position in the church, or our place in society. He simply says, “Follow Me,” and then He shows us the way, He shows us what to do, just as He directed His disciples. Jesus gave His disciples a purpose that goes beyond this world: the mission to ‘catch men’. This was the purpose for which Jesus came to earth as a man. He described it Himself when He said, “If I am lifted up, I will draw all people to Me” (John 12:32). Hence the expression, ‘fishers of men.’ One way or another, whatever we do in obedience to Jesus, will result in people getting saved, and that’s the mission we all share.
