All will be resurrected, whether righteous or wicked, but not all at the same time. The righteous dead will be raised when Jesus returns on the clouds to gather His faithful on earth. We call this the rapture. In contrast, the wicked dead will be resurrected to punishment 1,000 years after the resurrection of the righteous (John 5:29; Daniel 12:2; Revelation 14:9-11, 20:4-6, 11-15, 21:8, 22:15). When they are resurrected, all the souls and spirits of those who have died will be brought back from heaven or hell to the place where their bodies were buried, and God will then resurrect them so that they will hear the voice of the Son of God and come forth to live forever with God, or to dwell apart from Him in the lake of fire (John 5:28,29; Daniel 12:2). For the righteous dead, resurrection will mean be a glorified body, as described in 1 Corinthians 15:44. Whilst it’s clear that the wicked dead will receive a new body, the Bible doesn’t say a lot about the precise nature of the resurrected bodies that the wicked dead will receive. Many believe that the wicked will be given a new body, possibly one that is capable of withstanding eternal judgment without being destroyed. The wicked will be resurrected to judgement and punishment in contrast to the righteous who will be raised to everlasting life and eternal freedom from judgement (John 5:24). Choose life today that you may be part of the first resurrection.
