What can we say about the resurrected righteous dead? The Bible reveals several characteristics in this respect. These include the fact that the righteous dead are those who have done what good they can during their life on earth. This is not the same thing as saying that they are perfectly righteous through their own efforts. This is impossible. But their goodness is true nevertheless, for it rests upon Christ’s gift of righteousness and their acceptance of it in their hearts. Those who truly receive Christ as their friend and Saviour desire to do good. Their hearts will seek good, and God will judge their hearts. Jesus said, “Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth - those who have done good, to the resurrection of life” (John 5:28,29). Doing good matters. Good works alone are not enough to get us into heaven. Only trust in Jesus does that. The Bible says that when it comes to salvation, our righteousness is as filthy rags! But if our coming to Jesus is sincere, we will want to do good, and God sees our heart. Apart from God, no one is fully good, but that shouldn’t stop us doing what good we can. Good matters. Let us do what we can today to bring the love and light of Yeshua everywhere we can.
