A second great lie and grave error of thinking is to believe that if there is a God He cannot possibly be loving, to allow such suffering as this. The idea here is that no God of love would allow such suffering as we see around us on every side. Those who believe this lie do not necessarily deny that God exists, but that He does not care. This lie seeks to distort our perception of His nature. The stranglehold exerted by this lie upon large swathes of humanity is maintained more by ignorance than by debate. As an argument, it is so flawed in its reason, logic, and science, that I believe no intelligent person would entertain it for a moment, if it were not for ignorance of the truth. Myths, deceptions, and illusions flourish where there is no reliable data. But when the truth becomes known, such idolatrous superstitions are shown to be false. Our knowledge of God’s love and our experience of it destroy not only the power of such lies, but every argument that exalts itself against the love of God. To know God’s love is to realise that He is not the author of sickness, suffering and death, but a good God, who loves us all, and all His creation.
