Today's Early Church Wisdom
'One of the old men came to Abba Theodore and said to him, "Look how such and such a brother has returned to the world." The old man said to him, "Does that surprise you? No, rather be astonsihed when you hear that someone has been able to escape the jaws of the enemy.".'
Abba Theodore
C. 4th Century
This week's Psalm is Psalm 29 'The Voice That Stills The Storm'

Defeating The Lie That There Is No God

Some maintain that there is no God. According to the Bible, this is the position adopted by fools, those who observe the overwhelming evidence for God, but who deny Him and rationalise their position with spurious arguments from pseudo-science, and the crazy idea that His existence is somehow precluded by the horror of human suffering.

“If there is a God,” we hear them say, “How can He allow such terrible things?” In the face of such undeniable pain, these rebels naively and sometimes conveniently assume that there is no God. This is a common position adopted by those who mistakenly assume that the extent, and sometimes the horror, of human suffering that we see on earth indicates that there is no God. What’s the best way to prove that something exists? To go and see for yourself! If you do not yet know God, this is my advice to you: go and see. The Bible encourages us to “Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8).
