Jesus’ call to repentance, invites us to make a radical shift in our dependency, away from all that this world holds dear to a life of daily walking and talking with the King of Love, our Shepherd and our Friend. The first time we make this shift is when we come to faith in Jesus, turning from the sin that enslaves us to the Saviour who loves us. But it doesn’t stop there. This is a shift to be made every morning we awake to a new day on earth. Life has many pressures, challenges, and distractions, and it’s possible for any of us to be drawn away from a life lived closely with our Saviour. Just as a ship or plane must be continually kept on course if it is to successfully reach its destination, so we too must regularly check the course settings of our life, if we are to stay on God’s path for us. This means that we must turn afresh to Him each morning. It’s not that we need to be saved again, for we do not, but we certainly do need to stay close to the One who holds our life and destiny in His hands. Thus we see how vital this message is to our lives, and how necessary it is for us to join with Jesus, John, and all those men and women down through history who have proclaimed this greatest message of all.
