The Challenge of Jesus

A lifestyle of repentance

Jesus continually challenged His hearers to change their minds about life. So many people languish under life’s burdens, facing so many issues, challenges, and struggles. It was ever so, in Jesus’ day, and in our own. But Jesus and John have a message for them all, the message that there is more – so much more! This message, so essential, so primary, so central to human life and wellbeing, has been the message of gospel preachers throughout history. Many examples could be given, including that of Martin Luther, who even makes its explanation the first of his 95 theses, stating, "When our Lord and Master Jesus Christ said, 'Repent,' he willed the entire life of believers to be one of repentance." My friend, this message still speaks to us today. The same Jesus who stood on the shores of Galilee is still calling, “Repent.” He’s not calling us to religion, He’s not calling us to rules, He’s calling us to relationship, to a life of trusting Him rather than a life of trusting ourselves and all that this world offers.
