On being told that Jesus was the Lamb of God (John 1:36), two disciples of John the Baptist responded immediately by following Jesus. There are moments in life that must be seized, and this was one. Had they hesitated, this moment could easily have been lost, and our gospels would read very differently. When you know in your spirit that it is right to act, never hesitate. When Jesus turns and sees them following Him, He asks, “What do you seek?” (“Τί ζητεῖτε;”). The Greek here does not simply mean “What are you looking for?” but “What do you long for? What is it your heart truly desires?” This is a question we would all do well to answer, for it’s a fundamental question of life. What are we longing for at the depth of our being? Perhaps ask yourself that question today. What is it that my heart most desires?
