Walking & Talking With Jesus

Jesus said, “Abide in Me, and I in you.” Let’s unpack this a little. Jesus’ words point to a close and continuing relationship rather than a distant and intermittent one. How can we have such a relationship with Him? I guess the short answer would be that we do what we would do in any close friendship. We spend time with the person and open our hearts together, sharing and listening. It’s the same with Jesus, but because He is not bodily present with us, we must use our imagination to picture Him. This is often referred to as ‘practicing the presence of God.’ It’s crystal clear from what He said that Jesus wants us to enjoy a close friendship with Him. If that’s something we want too, it’s easily realised. All we need do is daily walk and talk with Him. As we daily practice His presence with us, imagining Him speaking with us, taking to heart and following what He says, our lives will bear much fruit, just as Jesus promised they would. It’s very simple, but not everyone chooses it.
