Pentecost was certainly a unique event in that it involved the pouring out of God’s Spirit upon all flesh, but it would be a mistake to see it as a one-off phenomenon. Rather, it marked the beginning of a new age in which men and women would be empowered to continue the ministry of Christ on earth, proclaiming the great salvation accomplished through the Cross. Pentecost was not just a singular event but a pivotal moment that signalled the empowerment of believers in every succeeding century. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit was a divine endorsement of the apostles’ mission, and the holy seedbed of countless future apostles - that's you and I! Through the receipt of the Holy Spirit the followers of Yeshua were provided with all the necessary spiritual and practical tools to fulfil their commission. The ability to speak in various languages was particularly significant, as it allowed disciples to communicate the gospel to people from diverse linguistic backgrounds who had gathered in Jerusalem for the festival. Whether we speak in the languages of men or of angels, the gift of tongues enables us to pray perfectly according to the will of God. Let us not neglect it.
