Most people want to be successful, but their conception of success is usually shaped according to the values of this world. Success for them looks like money, material wealth, loving relationships, good health, long life, and plenty of friends. Whilst these may be great blessings, they can never define true success. Why? Becausethey omit one key characteristic – in fact the central characteristic of true success! Love and obedience to God will always be the number one criteria of a successful life. That’s not to say that earth will always recognise this criterion. It’s only when people are born again and their eyes are opened to the truth that they realise what’s really important. As a newborn citizen of Heaven, they see that life is best lived Heaven’s way. For those who choose to
love and obey the LORD, there will be eternal rewards beyond imagining. These people know that earthly wealth and fame are nothing compared to what awaits them beyond the grave. Let’s close with Jesus’ definition of success: “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it” (Luke 11:28).
