A strong Christian community is one that speaks and sings in tongues, individually and together. Tongues are a supernatural and Divine expression. Whenever expressed they change things. No utterance in tongues is ever ineffective, though we may be completely unaware of what is happening in the unseen spiritual realm. If people were to realise the power of this gift, they would immediately begin to use it, and it would quickly become a mainstay of their life. It was the proud boast of the apostle Paul that he spoke in tongues “more than you all” (1 Corinthians 14:18). He knew the power of tongues, as will we if we diligently use them. The use of tongues facilitates the wellbeing of the individual and the church. Given that tongues are such an important channel of spiritual communication, where they fall silent, churches fall backwards into some degree of spiritual decline.
