Talking With Jesus

A life building word

In His first encounter with Simon, Jesus sees not just who he is, but who he will become (John 1:35-42). Cephas (Aramaic), or Petros in Greek, means “rock.” Jesus speaks destiny over a fisherman, and Jesus has spoken destiny over you – something far greater than you realise or can ever achieve by your own efforts. By God’s grace, and God’s grace alone, Peter was to be the rock, humanly speaking, on which the Christian Church would be built. He was to take a leading role in the building of the first church and the movement by which it spread so quickly to the nations of the then known world. What has God spoken over you? Do you know? Perhaps you are following His call. Praise God if that’s the case! Perhaps you once knew God’s call on your life, but for some reason it’s been set aside. If so, you need to return to it today and make it your first priority! Perhaps you have never chatted with Jesus as Simon did that day. If that’s the case, your task is to start today, walking and talking with Jesus. He will reveal His destiny for you – not all of it in great detail, but the name of it, the sense of it, the reality of it.
