Most of us today live in what we might call a ‘surveillance culture’. It’s natural for people to watch other people, but this is now something that is actively practised by governments and organisations. Clearly there can be benefits to this, such as the increased ability to solve crimes, but we must avoid the dangers of overly invasive surveillance or its abuse by unprincipled agencies. Human surveillance will never be as good as God’s! As an omnipresent being (His eyes are everywhere) God misses nothing. Not only does God see it all, He sees it with eyes of love and mercy. He’s watching those who have not yet put their faith in Him, steadily working to draw them to Himself, and He is watching over those of us who believe, continually working for our good and for the fulfilment of His great work of the ages: the restoration of all things. In the words of the Psalmist: “The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore” (Psalm 121:8). To fully enjoy God’s watchful care, let us submit our hearts and lives to Him, and seek His loving guidance in all things, for He watches over our going out and coming in forever.
