One of the most impactful spiritual experiences I ever had was visiting a home during a time of revival. I was invited to the meeting by a friend, and I assumed that it would probably be like many home meetings I had attended before. But I was wrong. My friend and I were amongst the first to arrive, and I took my seat opposite the door. People then started arriving and the room gradually filled, to the point where it was full and there was no room for more! It was not uncomfortable, but we were sandwiched together like sardines in a tin! Then the meeting began. I think someone briefly welcomed everyone, and then people started to sing in tongues. One by one, voices would be added, until the whole company were singing out their praises and their prayers to God. Having been baptised in the Spirit myself, I was familiar with singing in tongues, but never had I been in a place where so many sang for so long! I expected it to stop after a little while, but it didn’t. Instead, it continued for well over an hour. I cannot describe the effects of this experience and the sense of Heavenly power released by it. What I do believe is that this kind of meeting was normative in the days of the first church, and that where such gatherings are held in our day, great power from Heaven will be released to heal lives, families, communities, nations, and the world.
