Christian scripture makes it clear that we are most blessed when we give. Some think that by grasping more they will gain more, but this is a tragic illusion. Jesus said, "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy" (Matthew 5:7). The Greek word eleēmones (ἐλεήμονες) refers to those who show mercy, not just feel it. This isn’t pity from a distance. It’s compassionate action. Mercy reflects the heart of God. My friend, you and I were lost and condemned, but God in His mercy sent Jesus to rescue us. When you’ve tasted that mercy, you can’t help but extend it to others. And the promise is beautiful: when you live a life of mercy, you will keep on receiving it from God, every single day. You know that you are spiritually prosperous when you show mercy to others.
