Meekness and prosperity are not generally things that people associate together. In this world, prosperity and success are often associated with greedy and grasping attitudes. But true prosperity has very different roots, and this is something that Jesus clearly teaches in what we call His ‘Sermon on the Mount’. Jesus said, "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth" (Matthew 5:5). Praeis (πραεῖς) is the word here. It means meek, gentle, humble. Not weak, not timid, not cowardly. Meekness is strength under control. Moses was called the meekest man on earth, yet he faced Pharaoh and led Israel out of bondage. Jesus, the King of kings, described Himself as “meek and lowly in heart.” Those who refuse to claw and grasp for power in this world, those who wait on the Lord, they will inherit the earth, not by force, but by promise. You know that you are spiritually prosperous when you act with gentleness and humility. To worldly thinking, this spiritual law appears counter-intuitive, but God does not estimate ‘success’ in worldly terms, and to heavenly thinking, this is the way of the most successful people on earth.
