The second characteristic of an effective evangelist that I would like to highlight is that of trust. As Jesus’ representatives, we are called to be trustworthy people, the kind of people who will be taken seriously. Not everyone is taken seriously in our culture, and part of the reason for that is that there are those in certain positions who have demonstrated that they cannot be trusted. Lies, broken promises, and the use of rhetoric that bears no resemblance or relationship to reality, are all anti-trust factors that alienate a person’s audience and undermine their message. Don’t be like this but tell the truth as you have received it from God. Truth can be trusted, though many, like Pontius Pilate, are confused about what truth is. As someone who has a personal relationship with Jesus (Who is the Truth), your words bring light to the darkness of spiritual ignorance in which so many live. Remember that amongst this world’s babble of empty words, you are bringing a word of truth and life! It may not always be immediately received but be assured that it will lodge in the minds of your hearers, a living seed from Heaven, ready to germinate in its time.
