Some treat seeking God as a luxury – something you might do at special times, such as on a retreat. Others don’t even do that. No one ever told them that they could walk and talk with Jesus each day, neither did they discover it themselves. What a tragedy this is! And the responsibility for it must lie at the door of all those who failed to teach this primary expression of discipleship. Their Lord clearly told them that this one thing was needed (Luke 10:42), but they, just as clearly, chose something else. It is impossible to quantify the vast loss to humanity that has accrued as a direct result of such negligence on the part of so many so-called Christian leaders. Let us not be like them, but those who point the way to Jesus. For this is the Gospel, the Good News, that Jesus died for our sins that we might enjoy a personal and experiential relationship with Him, chatting to Him daily, and thus fulfil our mission in the world, according to the Great Commission He has given us (Matthew 28:16-20).
