From the beginning of the first church in Jerusalem to this day, believers have gathered in groups, and it is our responsibility as evangelists to help each new believer find the most suitable local church ‘home’ for. them. By meeting and worshipping together with other believers, at least two great things may happen. Firstly, individuals may be established and strengthened in their faith. Secondly, the witness for Christ is so much more evident in the world. The visible church on earth is intended to give the world a taste of Heaven, which it does as it looks to Him. We ought never to deny the value and the power of Christian fellowship, but because this is so valuable, it should be guarded. Proper safeguarding helps to protect those who visit or join any group. When I say ‘guarded’ I am not only thinking about those checks and guidelines that we are familiar with in contemporary society, but the ultimate safeguard of all, which is born of the Spirit of God. Wherever and whenever a physical group of believers prioritises the practice of the presence of God, both as individual believers and in their corporate gatherings, the protection of God is greatest. The body can only function as it should whilst it is connected to the head. The first duty of every church is to daily walk and talk with Jesus, and when it does, God adds to it daily those who are being saved.
