Jesus Calms Two Storms

In the Gospel story of the violent storm encountered by Jesus and His disciples on the Sea of galilee, Jesus did not merely calm the weather. His response was to calm two storms, for the wind and the waves were not the only storm that day. There was a storm of fear and panic raging in the hearts of the disciples. Jesus first rebuked the wind and the waves, and then He rebuked His disciples, saying, ““Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” (v.40). Some outward storms last longer than others, but as Jesus once said to me, “There has never been a storm that did not end!” However protracted the storms of life may be, thank God for His amazing grace. For by faith the inner storm of the heart may always be quickly quelled. The message for us today, is as clear as the message was for them. When we are going through life’s storms, let us remember that it was Jesus who directed us along our path, and put our full faith and trust in Him. The test of our faith will be the depth of our rest. Jesus can only calm our inner storm when we choose to trust Him and give our life fully into His hands. Then, and only then, will we find ourselves sleeping in the storms of life.
