Most people find that it is in their own home that they can most relax and be themselves. That’s a big reason why Jesus’ model of church is so effective. He modelled Christian fellowship with a meal shared by friends (the Last Supper) and the first church followed this example, with meetings over meals in homes (the Agape) where they took bread and wine in memory of Him. In this type of gathering the members were free to share and grow, for this kind of fellowship creates something extraordinary. When believers gather in small, personal spaces, the walls come down — literally and figuratively. Relationships grow deep and lasting. Gifts and callings rise to the surface.
Ministry becomes a shared life, not a spectator event. And most remarkably, the church grows — not by adding members to a roster, but by multiplying disciples and communities in the most organic way possible.
