The practise of the presence of God, prayer, Scripture, obedience, and continual fellowship reorient the soul toward the living God amid spiritual confusion and moral compromise. A. W. Tozer famously wrote, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” Matthew 4:10 calls believers to guard that inward sanctuary so that Christ alone reigns there. Outwardly and physically, Christ stood in the bleak surroundings of the Judean wilderness, yet inwardly and spiritually He stood in the sanctuary of Heaven, attending to His Father’s every word. To live a born-again life is to daily experience a miracle whereby we may operate in two realms: the visible and the invisible. This was the way of Jesus, and it will always be the highest, yet by His grace it is the most easily available way for His disciples to tread. We need only lift our eyes to Him, and He will do the rest.
