God never says that the lives of His children will be free from sorrows and pain. Living in a world of death and decay, we will all face tribulation in one way or another. But He does promise to be with us and to comfort us through it all. The apostle Paul writes: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). This is not merely a pleasant idea but a spiritual reality, known by all those who bring God into their tribulation. What do I mean by that? Simply that when things get difficult, as they sometimes will, we go to God in prayer, and we actively listen to what He would say to us personally in our challenging situation. Those who dare to imagine God with them and speaking to them will receive endless words of comfort that will strengthen and soothe their troubled soul. If you have never experienced this, start today. Don’t wait for difficult times to come but start now. Make time to be still and listen to His voice, and you will find that His is a voice that brings the deepest comfort, even in the most difficult situations.
