Today's Early Church Wisdom
God is the beginning, middle and end of everything good; and it is impossible for us to have faith in anything good or to carry it into effect except in Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Disciples Who Celebrate The Agape Meal

The first church regularly met together to share in a fellowship meal. This was called the Agape meal, and it was inaugurated by the Lord Jesus Christ at the Last Supper. It was at the Last Supper that Jesus gave one meeting to the church and it was this. Interestingly, the church only partly follows Jesus’ command today, choosing to share bread and wine in memory of Him, but generally without the communal meal which was the human setting in which the jewel of Holy Communion was originally set. In our day, many disciples are rediscovering the joy of sharing bread and wine together in the context of a celebratory meal at a home. We rejoice in this development and encourage many more to step out and embrace their first century heritage.
