Dependence On God

If we could journey back in time to the Garden of Eden and ask Adam and Eve about their needs, I wonder what they would say. I’m not sure that we would get very far, because even if they had a concept of need, which is debatable, they were in a place and a condition where all their needs were fully met. Everything conducive to their happiness, their health, and their wholeness was amply supplied. They knew the most profound peace, the deepest contentment, the richest fulfilment, the greatest happiness, the fullest sense of belonging, the strongest security, the most assured acceptance, an irrepressible joy, a sense of being most highly valued, the knowledge of being deeply loved, a sense of life being wholly meaningful, and a sense of Divine purpose. Consequently, I doubt that our questions would make much sense to them.

What was the key to this sublime state of indescribable peace and joy? It was nothing less than that they lived in a loving relationship with God characterised by daily dependence upon Him. There is no greater choice than that of choosing to walk with God.
