Today's Early Church Wisdom
“None of us offers resistance when he is seized, or avenges himself for your unjust violence, although our people are numerous and plentiful…it is not lawful for us to hate, and so we please God more when we render no requital for injury…we repay your hatred with kindness.”
~ Cyprian, Bishop of Carthage (died 258AD)
This week's Psalm is Psalm 31 'My Rock, My Shield, My Song'

Come Boldy to the King

It’s good when people mean business, for that’s when things get done. Any less, and people are likely to hesitate, procrastinate, delay, dawdle, or even do nothing at all! This is the attitude God encourages us to have when we face any kind of need. It can be the needs of others, or perhaps needs we face as we seek to do God’s will. The Bible gives us helpful guidance for such situations, including that which we find in the book of Hebrews, where we read, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). God knows that we are living in a war zone down here on earth. We are surrounded by death and decay. Satan is the prince of this world, and sin abounds on every side. Of course we will have problems! So, what does the Spirit say? “Come boldly for help!” This is no place for timid prayer. This is no place for resigned acceptance. This is the place of determined, faith-filled, action, born out of contemplation and intercession. Strong men and women (strong in God though weak in themselves) are bold to seek God and hear His answer to every situation of need. Such disciples are quick to obey all that the Spirit directs.
