Those who are one with God obey Him, and their obedience will always please Him. Jesus said, “I seek not My own will, but the will of the Father” (Jn.5:30; 6:38). He said, “I do always those things that please Him” (Jn.8:29). Jesus was always praying to His Father, looking To Him for guidance and direction in all things. This is a model for us. As Jesus said to Mary and Martha on one occasion, “One thing is needful” (Luke 10:42). He was referring to the way that Mary sat at His feet and listened. Many in the Christian church would say that they love Jesus, but they don’t see listening to Jesus as a daily necessity. Those who do diligently seek Him discover a depth of oneness that can be hard to put into words. This experience is like the connection of great friends. It might also be compared to the kind of connection that lovers may have. But it is greater by far than both of these, for through this connection, this oneness with God, the deepest hunger and thirst of the human heart is met. As Jesus said, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38). He said, “Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst” (John 4:14). The Bible talks a lot about the deep hunger and thirst of the human heart, and the fact that nothing but a personal relationship with God can fully satisfy it.
