Today's Early Church Wisdom
'If you fast regularly, do not be inlated with pride, but if you think highly of yourself because of it, then you had better eat meat. It is better for a man to eat meat than to be inflated with pride and to glorify himself."'
Isidore the Priest
4th / 5th c. A.D.
This week's Psalm is Psalm 29 'The Voice That Stills The Storm'

A Follower of Jesus

What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus? Is it enough simply to attend a Christian church? Is it enough to admire Him and agree with His teaching? Is it enough to simply identify as a Christian? Choices such as these certainly suggest that the individual is a follower of Jesus. These characteristics reflect just a few of the many ways in which His followers may experience, express, and enjoy their personal relationship with Him. But could there be more to following Him than these expressions alone? The New Testament suggests that there is. In the Gospel accounts Jesus says that two things are necessary to follow Him. The first is that a person must be born again. The second thing is to daily walk and talk with Him. Jesus is talking, but are we listening?
