One of the ways in which we benefit from our union with Christ in God is the fact that it gives us a mission. We know that Jesus had a mission. He said, “I came from God, neither came I of Myself” (Jn.8:42; 16:28). Jesus was sent. God ‘gave’ His only-begotten Son (John 3:16). He came voluntarily, but He was sent. It’s the same for us. Just as the Father sent Jesus, so Jesus sends us. We are all apostles (the Greek word ‘apostolos’ means ‘one who is sent’) sent by Jesus to reach the world with the message of His healing love. It’s what we call ‘the great commission.’ This commission is both corporate (it involves the whole church) and personal (we each have our own role to play). There’s a mission we all share, which is to take the Good News to the world, and there’s also the specific calling of the individual. You have a mission to complete on earth. What is your current understanding of that mission? If you’re not sure of its current status, why not take a little time to listen to Him today that He might brief you on the next stage of your life.
