Both Jesus and John the Baptist had one central message: “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand” (Matthew 3:2,3; 4:17; Mark 1:15). What exactly did they mean by this? The New Testament Greek word for repentance is ‘metanoia’ which means a change of heart of heart or mind. John and Jesus were both saying the same thing: firstly, decide to change your position in relation to your life and how you see it – where you stand, what you think, how you see things, what you put your trust in, what you believe matters most; and secondly, choose the Kingdom of God, which is here, and you can become part of it right now, simply by turning afresh to God and putting your trust in Him.
This was a call to change sides, an invitation to become a citizen of Heaven, to start living Heaven’s way rather than earth’s way. From this new position, the power of Heaven flows into our lives, and through our lives it touches the world around us. Choose Heaven today!
