Some people think of God’s guidance as a rather vague or imprecise thing. Certainly, there may be times when the Holy Spirit gives us a sense of something which may be hard to express in words. But let us be clear that God’s guidance is highly specific where it needs to be. Consider the Old Testament’s prophecies of Jesus’ first coming, and how they have been exactly fulfilled. On earth we seek to be precise, especially in science, but only Heaven can consistently reveal exactly what we need to know at any given moment. Different methods apply to each sphere. In science we use the scientific
method, but in spirituality we use the contemplative method. In science we carefully examine the salient data, but in theology we diligently seek God, listening attentively to all that He would say to us. To live by Divine inspiration is to receive the most precise guidance, not necessarily whenever we want it, but certainly when we really need it. There’s no higher path than this. We are given one mortal life on earth, and during our relatively brief time here, we can either do things our way, or Heaven’s way. A life lived without Heaven’s guidance is a life lived in the dark, but a life of contemplation is always bright, shining forever. The Way of Heaven is open to all. Those who take it join an invisible company of men and women from every continent and century, who have
diligently sought and followed the Way.
