The Greed That Will Not Share

Why are so many dying of starvation in our day? What is the primary issue here? The problem is not a global shortage of food, but of distribution. God made the earth with enough resources to feed everyone on it. The problem is that humans will not share. Each of those little children, and not just the children – the starving adults too – are human sacrifices on the altar of human greed. When extreme selfishness and the inability of nations to work together to properly address this problem are combined, the consequences will be dire, as they currently are. But it will not be this way forever, for Jesus is coming back, and He is coming back to reign. He will reign over the whole earth from Jerusalem. And there is one thing of which we can be sure, and that is that no one will die of starvation under His rule. Why will starvation cease under the reign of Christ? It is not simply because He is King. We have had many ‘kings’, all of whom have failed to put this right. Starvation will cease because Christ is a LOVING King, the Good Shepherd, and He will be the only King on earth during the coming millennial period. Let us be clear that over every single one whose life is cruelly and unjustly snuffed out, God weeps, for God IS love (1 John 4:7), and in a world shot through with suffering and sin, this love pursues us to help us and make us whole. Shortage of food is just one manifestation of the sin and death that corrupts all creation. Every living soul will experience the dark influence of evil in some way, but no one suffers alone, for Love knows our pain, and has determined to heal us and make us whole.
