The members of the first church didn’t merely worship together. They shared their lives together. Not in an intrusive, controlling, or enmeshed way, for these personal and
cultural dynamics are antithetical to the Way established by Yeshua. To the extent that they received and followed Him, the Holy Spirit worked as social and psychological leaven in these human groups, moving them daily towards nobler and more virtuous living. These first believers were far from perfect, but their shared life embodied a healing force of love that daily drew them into a deeper experience and revelation of life. This daily life was centred around Jesus and His teachings. Many began their days with prayer and devotion, seeking guidance from Jesus for their daily activities. This practice reflected their desire to let Him lead their lives. Throughout the day, they would remember and look to the Lord in all things, striving to live out His teachings in their interactions with others. Unless this lifestyle is taught and established through discipleship, seeking God is in danger of becoming a minority spiritual interest and the unique spiritual life of the church is quickly lost.
