Practising the Presence of God

It’s crystal clear from what Jesus said that He wants us to enjoy a close friendship with Him. If that’s something we want too, it’s easily realised. All we need do is to start ‘walking and talking’ with Him daily. As we consistently practice His presence with us, imagining Him speaking with us, taking to heart and following what He says, our lives will bear much fruit, just as Jesus promised they would. This is a very simple thing to do, but sadly not everyone will choose it. In the first Christian community at Jerusalem in the first century, this simple lifestyle of daily walking and talking with Jesus appears to have been normative, which is why the apostle Paul talks of “Not knowing anything amongst you but Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:2), and the writer of Hebrews speaks of “Looking unto Jesus” (Hebrews 12:2).
