I have often heard people say, “I don’t pray enough,” and I have said it myself. I guess we can never pray too much, but we may pray too little. The Bible encourages us not only to pray, but to keep praying. For example, Paul writes, “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving” (Colossians 4:2). Prayer is a big word, in that there are many different forms of it, and all of these have their place, so people are sometimes a little confused, thinking, “What kind of prayer should I pray in this situation?” Thankfully, there is a simple answer to questions like this, and it is found in the fundamental meaning of prayer. All prayer is communication with God. If we remember this and approach our every prayer as a meeting with God, we will always pray aright. The reason for this is that we are listening to Him and praying as He leads us to pray. There is no greater prayer than that which the Holy Spirt inspires within us! This is the easy way to pray because we take our guidance from Him. It takes a great weight of responsibility off our shoulders and puts it back where it belongs with God. Unlike God, we are not omniscient (all-knowing) and therefore cannot be expected to pray as well as Him! So, as we walk the path of our life, today and tomorrow, let us seek His face, listen to His word, and pray as He directs.
