Come Fishing!

When Jesus called Simon Peter and Andrew with the words, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matt. 4:19), He was not merely inviting them into religious affiliation but summoning them into total transformation, lifelong communion, and redemptive mission. There are two complementary aspects to His invitation. The first is an invitation to relationship. “Follow Me,” He says. Unlike all other ideologies, philosophies and religions, this is a commitment to relationship with a living leader. The closest other human systems of thought can get to this is by inviting their members to follow the teachings of one who is now dead. But Christ lives! The second is an invitation to work together with Him in the Gospel mission, taking the Good News of salvation to a dying world. Taken together, this is an invitation to come fishing with Him.
