Choosing to Remember

How do we find faith and strength in trials and weakness? Scripture gives us a clue when we read that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). The best way to find strength in all these challenging situations of life is by hearing and remembering what God says. Hearing and remembering are both important. If we don’t hear, we will not develop faith, for faith comes by hearing. If we don’t remember, we will not continue in faith. It’s never enough just to hear God’s word once. Like a seed sown in the ground, that word must be taken to heart and nurtured. Remembering what God has said brings a harvest of fulfilled promises. This is what I have learnt to do when I find myself in times of trouble. I remember. I deliberately and consciously choose to remember what God says about these trials of life, and as I do, I am strengthened by His invisible power and brought to a place of peace, even during the storm.
